CLERMONT FERRAND – The Tour de France is preparing to experience a decidedly quieter stage after the great battle in Auvergne the previous day. The greatest difficulties are at the start of the stage: the first two gpm of the day, the Côte de Chaptuzat-Haut (1.9km at 5%) and the Côte de Mercurol (2.9km at 4.6%), are in the first part of race and are both of the fourth category, like the third, the Côte de la Croix Blanche (1.6 km at 5.4%), just under 60 from the finish. After Gipcy, at -25, it’s all downhill. Philipsen can increase his personal loot. Unfortunately, Mark Cavendish won’t be able to do it, withdrew from the stage in Limoges.
