Since Monday, the reason for the death of Tori Bowie, the American sprinter (Olympic and world champion) found dead on April 23, has been less mysterious but, unfortunately, much more tragic at his home in Horizon West, Florida. The autopsy (the body was found several days after his death) revealed that Bowie, 32 years old, died in childbirth: she was eight months pregnant and complications from labor — she lived alone — were fatal due to an eclampsia, a convulsive birth syndrome that can be life threatening. Local authorities have certified that Tori had not been in contact with family or friends for weeks.

His had seemed to many a fairytale life: abandoned by her mother in an orphanage of Mississippi, recovered e grew up on a very isolated farm from Grandma Bobbie, after gaining experience playing basketball on the courts with the Tori boys he became an absolute star in athletics.

After starting his career as a long jumper Tori moved into sprint. Third in the 100 meters ai Beijing 2015 World Cupwas atsilver in the 100m, bronze in the 200m and gold in the 4x100m relay the following year at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

In 2017 the consecration: he won both the 100 meters and the 4×100 at the World Championships in London. His personal bests are still at the top of the all-time lists: 10 ”78 in the 100 meters, 21” 77 in the 200 and 6 meters and 91 in the long run. After a long period away from the slopes, last June he had tried to resume competitions but after a modest 23”60 over the 200m in a race in Florida he had gone missing.
