Taken for what, a hypervitamin cinecomic turned into a Bildungsroman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever not that crazy boiata that many predicted. Let’s say this: well-made whipped cream. Refreshing the Marvel Universe, director Ryan Coogler recalls Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played the black super hero in four films before dying in 2020 at the age of 43 and praises Africa, a continent attacked and full of resources, of extended families, of multi-ethnic super heroes, multipliers of receipts and of the sagas stirred up by TV series.
The place of Black Panther on the throne of Wakanda is taken by Shuri (Letitia Wright), sister of King T’Challa, who disappeared with Boseman. The temptation to overcome the impasse of a difficult succession by transfiguring the super hero into a super woman was too strong. The transition phase ends in the first minutes of the film. The development of history in fact entrusted to a group of very women, angels / devils of good and evil, interpreted by Angela Bassett (Ramonda), Florence Kasumba (Ayo), Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Dominique Thorne (Riri Williams).
The men of Wakanda are foggy, irrelevant entities, with the exception of the good Tenoch Huerta in the part of Namor, ruler (with his feet and head soaked) of Talocan, a realm coeval with the Aztecs, located in the depths of the sea. Shuri a character who evolves following events: you would not give her a penny, then it hardens, realizes its role, becomes wise (through pain) and powerful (through hard training). Ramonda, generaless of overtime charm, its counterpart. The belluries with which Ryan Coogler fills the colossal Marvel are true visionary fantasies. But also the representation of the black community that lives at the bottom of the sea and, as always, has to face prejudices, battles, intergalactic bullies to find a dimension of itself, should not be overlooked. The futuristic sense of the staging, the post digital décor, the geometric profile of the battles underline a not new symbology, a little crammed, but also suggestive and well treated. In all, there are two hours and forty minutes of screening (not to be spoiled) where everyone happens. But in particular we fight, we plot and we love each other. Black Panther always with us. High grade in report cards for Angela Bassett and Letitia Wright (Shuri) who marries her character with aggression, vulnerability and a well-thought-out sense of responsibility towards the brother who is no longer there.
