«History has paths that are always the same, democracies emerge and then disappear, from the beginning of time, from Julius Caesar to Napoleon, they are always at risk and can end very quickly if there are the political circumstances for this to happen. This repetition of the same pattern is the background of our history. Jon Favreau is the showrunner of “The Mandalorian”the series taken from the infinite world of «Star Wars» whose third season debuts today, Wednesday 1st March, on Disney+and when asked where the journey will take its protagonists, Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, played by Pedro Pascal («The Last of Us») and his adorable little Friend Baby Yoda, explains: «Two years have passed and you can see the progress of their relationship. The Mandalorian, former bounty hunter lonely, now he has a family and that child he saved is growing up. Behind them is the chaos that has been brewing as the New Republic attempts to take root and the Empire disappears. There is an immense amount of destruction and great infighting.”

There is, in short, Worldwide invented by George Lucas, which has always had deep roots in human weakness. «Certain fantastic stories take on new importance, they are a way of explaining history today that history is no longer studied in school as it was in the past. A way to pass the knowledge of the old generations to the new ones. How many times the wisdom of Yoda is it mentioned in everyday life, by generations of human beings?». The world of «Star Wars» as one history lesson. If George Lucas said it, he would be presumptuous, but Jon Favreau does it, who one day, he was ten years old, walked into a movie theater with his father: «My parents had broken up and my dad was looking for ways to amuse his son on the weekends from separated father. Cinema was one of these ways. We had heard of “Star Wars”, there was anticipation, there were long queues in front of the halls, but we didn’t know what it was about. We sat down and were captivated by that story. I don’t remember how many times we went back to see him.’

Now the same family dynamics are repeated between the Mandalorian and baby Yoda. «There is my being a son but also a father. When at the end of the second season the Mandalorian entrusts baby Yoda to Luke Skywalker, in that greeting is all the devastation I felt when my son went to college the year before. That mix of sadness and pride which represents the emotion of a father towards a growing son». Favreau also has another authorship to claim. He is considered the one who invented the comic genre as we know it today, from Iron Man onwards. But is there, after twenty years of comics in the cinema, still room for something new? «I really think so, because it is about simple stories, of heroes and myths, and if in the past the limits were imposed by technology, today those limits no longer exist, on the contrary. There virtual realityartificial intelligence, the machine learning they offer new scenarios, in which the world of comics can dance beautifully».
