At the age of 29, one of the strongest horses of the 1990s died, a gray that marked an era in the equestrian world. Daylami he passed away two weeks after his thirtieth birthday, bent by health problems due to advanced age (generally horses live a maximum of 30-32 years). Hosted by the Irish stable Gilltown Stud (where he was also born and raised), up until now he had spent his retirement in one of the most efficient structures for the growth of new promises and for the care of ex-racers. The announcement of the death was released by the official social accounts of the famous team. In a tweet it was specified that all the commemorations will be reserved for the former champion and that all the staff of the structure will miss him, from the first to the last groom, especially the expert Joe Doyle, who has taken care of him all the last four years days. Born in 1994, Daylami in his career he collected 7 victories in G1 level races (first degree competitions) in four different countries. Subsequently, he fathered other horses that also triumphed at the highest level. In his personal palmares the Poule d’Essai des Poulains G1, the Eclipse Stakes G1 and Man O’War Stakes G1, up to the most important success of his career in the North American Breeders’ Cup Turf G1. In 1999, as a consecration of the results obtained, he was also recognized as the Cartier Horse of the Yeara sort of European Ballon d’Or reserved for racehorses.

Victory in destiny

Raised and bred in the stables ofAga Khan, Daylami’s competitive destiny was in fact written in the stars. Alain de Royer-Dupr was among his trainers, until he was taken over by Godolphin, one of the most famous private stables in the world for the training of racing thoroughbreds. At the end of his racing career, as a stallion he then brought prestige to the Coolagown Stud and Gilltown itself, before his complete retirement, even from productive activities, in 2014. Among his sons, the most successful were Gray Swallowwinner of the Irish Derby in 2004 and Voila Icicapable of collecting a prize pool of one million euros thanks to the successes at the Roma G1 Prize, the Jokey Club G1 Prize and finally also the Prix Maurice de Nieuil G2, in the Paris area.
