The Italian Federation of Sports Physiotherapists (FIFS) was presented yesterday afternoon in the Sala del Carroccio at the Palazzo Senatorio del Campidoglio in Rome.

Born on 9 February by the will of Aimtes which is the promoter and founder together with Arts and Atst, the new organization aims to promote the values, knowledge and experiences of the associations operating in the field of protection and training of sports physiotherapists.

Not only. It also wants to be a point of reference for all the figures in the rehabilitation area, active within the national technical-health circuit.

FIFS is inspired by the principles of Coni and Cip, of the International Paralympic Committee, of the IOC (International Olympic Committee).

Its aims were illustrated precisely during yesterday’s meeting in Rome in the presence of the president Riccardo Torquati, the honorary president Franco Russo and the president of Aimtes, Leandro Palomba.

«We wanted to bring our category of sports physiotherapists to the European levels and those of some other federations present in Italy – explained the manager Torquati during the press conference. – Let’s imagine being able to do like others before us, for example the athletic trainers who then give a real license to take the field, thus managing the athlete with a real training course and constant updating».

So putting yourself on a par with other realities, in order to guarantee constant monitoring and punctual support to the category of sports physiotherapists who, according to Torquati himself, are also underestimated from a contractual point of view, probably because they carry out an activity that is less in the limelight than others, perhaps more in the spotlight.

During the meeting for the presentation of the newborn FIFS, the value that physiotherapists bring to each locker room was underlined. The athlete relies on these figures who in Italy boast high levels of preparation, ending up being at the center of success and effective recovery for each athlete.

«Precisely for this reason it was important to give the right profile to these people – specified the president of the Federation Riccardo Torquati. Who added: “We will work alongside Coni, Cip and Cio, always in collaboration and never in competition with them”.

Torquati himself, on the other hand, presents himself to the new position strengthened by a professional past full of experience. Today he is 49 years old, but his career began when he was 22 and he was the physiotherapist of the Serie A football referees from 2002 to 2020. He has also worked with the Under 19 national football team.

“I am now facing a more institutional path, at the service of my colleagues and all those who represent those responsible for the health of athletes”, he concluded.
