To confirm that Valerio Bianchini, one of the most enlightened and luminous coaches in Italian basketball, is turning 80, you have to trust Wikipedia. Because when you hear him speak he looks much, much younger. He has the wisdom of age, but the quick thinking of youth. He is still today the only coach to have won the Scudetto in three different cities: Cantù, Rome and Pesaro. He made the province great and the capital great, but he always preferred another ball to the wedged one. But above all it is still today the symbol of a season that transformed Italian basketball making it leave the pages of specialized magazines to occupy ever more important spaces. He taught basketball, but above all he showed his players the way to become men as well as champions. For this he was nicknamed the poet. He dreamed of the impossible and often achieved it.
