The big resignations are among us.  But often they end up on the sofa

Dream job? It’s quitting. Quitting is the trend of the moment, everyone’s dream, especially the younger ones, but not only. Perhaps even stressed by a vague feeling of the end of the world, between climate catastrophe, war, culture wars and demented politics. We talk about it in books (the last one, “Le grandi dimissioni”, by Francesca Coin, Einaudi), broadcasts, chats with friends and psychologists. In the growing climate of “big resign” or indeed great resignations that is taking place all over the globe, it is no longer known which saint to turn to. In Italy there are over 1.6 million resignations recorded in the first nine months of 2022, 22 percent more than in the same period of 2021 when more than 1.3 million were recorded. The data comes from the Ministry of Labour. Among the terminations of employment relationships, resignations constitute the highest percentage after the end of fixed-term contracts. Looking at the third quarter of last year alone, there were 562,000 resignations, up 6.6 percent (equal to +35,000) over the third quarter of 2021. Data that therefore confirms how this long wave of resignations continues.
