The bear Juan Carrito, known for his raids in the towns of the Abruzzo National Park, has become a marketing tool. After the Abruzzo beekeepers who said they were happy that the bear appreciated their honey, today it is the starred chef Niko Romito who says he is honored by the bear’s visit.

In fact, the chef posted a video on Instagram in which the bear can be seen wandering around the three-star Casadonna Reale restaurant in Castel di Sangro. “Juan Carrito came by to say hello – writes Romito – he went quickly towards the kitchens. The nature we have around here is alive. We are surrounded by the national park, true beauty”.

Romito’s enthusiasm is indicative of a tradition that sees the Abruzzo people as more conciliatory with respect to the excesses of problem animals, compared to other Italian regions. The bear, son of Amarena, another animal that has always shown too much familiarity with inhabited centres, is no stranger to raiding inhabited centers in search of food and is monitored with a radio collar. Juan Carrito had also been captured to then be reintroduced into his habitat last March, but he continues to prefer inhabited centres.
