“Ductile metal of silver color”. This is what any student, any teenager struggling with the usual science homework, mineralogy chapter, would read. Chapter after chapter, paragraph after paragraph, ten, one hundred, one thousand, millions of students have grown up and together with them, aluminum has also grown and learned to be even more ductile. Now it is capable of infinite regeneration while maintaining the same physical characteristics: regenerating or, better, “reborn” through the recycling of materials that have reached the end of their life. In doing so – thus being reborn – the energy used for its production drops by 95%. You read that right: given one hundred consumption for the production of “primary” aluminium, the energy needed for recycled aluminum is reduced to five. Not bad, especially if you consider that the material thus obtained does not lose any of the peculiarities of primary aluminium. Less energy, less CO emissions2.

Aluminum has grown, it has become big, it’s “green”! Is it always and everywhere like this? And then… did he do it all by himself? The answer is no, both for the first and for the second question: it depends who, it depends where.

For the “where” you have to go to Piedmont, to Volpiano, in the province of Turin. Here the “who” responds to the name of Freesia Aluminum SpA, a leading Italian company in the design and marketing of eco-sustainable, high energy efficiency systems for aluminum windows. An important number for the Company, since it represents an arrival point but also a starting point: various systems, both for casement and sliding doors, and for curtain walls, will be produced in the NEO version with a percentage of recycled aluminum salt, in fact, up to 85%. The NEO range is one of the flagships of Fresia Alluminio which, not surprisingly, enjoys the statement EPD® (Environmental Product Declaration), recognition of international importance issued by the Swedish Environmental Management Council. The NEO Range also meets the mandatory requirements of the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) contained in the Green Procurement Decree for Public Administrations.

Ductile silver-coloured metal… something has changed in Volpiano’s: the aluminum is tinged with green.
