Rudisha, 34, two-time Olympic champion in athletics in the 800m. The crash in Kenya in the Masai Mara park: the light airplane hits a tree, three passengers injured

Kenyan 800m world record holder and two-time Olympic champion (in London 2012 and Rio 2016) David Rudisha, who will turn 34 next Saturday, survived a plane crash last Saturday evening in the Kajado region, southwest of the capital Nairobi.

As Rudisha himself recounted, the light airplane on which he was traveling in the company of five other people crashed in a rocky area near the Masai Mara park, 180 km from the capital. One of the wings struck a tree and the aircraft overturned. All was well after about seven or eight minutes of flight when the plane’s engine suddenly shut down. They were moments of terror, he told the newspaper Daily Nation the Olympic champion who retired from international competitions last year. One of the occupants was hospitalized for injuries sustained after the crash. Others, who sustained minor injuries (including Master Athletic Kenya president Stephen Ole Marai), were taken to hospital and subsequently discharged. Rudisha would be unharmed.
