The actor Christo Jivkov has died, he was John in the film “The Passion of the Christ” – Corriere.it

The Bulgarian actor Christo Jivkovknown for playing the Apostle John in the film The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson, who died at the age of 48 in a Los Angeles hospital: he had been ill with cancer for some time. The news was given on social media by some of his friends and then relaunched by the Deadline website.

Born in Sofia on February 18, 1975, Jivkov graduated from the Bulgarian Academy of Cinema and Theater, specializing in film directing with a documentary on Cinecitt and Italian cinema. He had worked with Ermanno Olmi in his 2001 film A Trade in Arms and from there his career had kicked off in Italy.

Jivkov had then interpreted St. John next to Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci in Gibson’s 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, which grossed $612 million worldwide. Her name had circulated several times, even recently, for the hypothetical sequel, The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection.
