The Spanish champion has announced that he will not play in Montecarlo, the first Masters 1000 of the season on clay, because he and his team are not in the right physical conditions. Through a statement, Rafael Nadal announced that “unfortunately he is not able to play with the maximum guarantees and I continue my recovery and preparation process, hoping to return to competition soon”.
Nadal has expressed his regret at not being able to play “one of the most important tournaments” of his career, which he won at the Monte Carlo Country Club eleven times. His absence adds up to that of last year, a forfeit which in any case did not prevent him from recovering his form and going on to triumph for the fourteenth time at Roland Garros, beating Djokovic and reaching 22 Grand Slams.
His comeback at this point could take place at the Trofeo Conde de Godó in Barcelona, if his physical condition allows it.
