Sinner returns to the top 10, Bertolucci: “The future is on his side”

Jannik Sinner back in the top 10 of world tennis. Despite the final loss at the Masters 1000 in Miami against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who confirms himself as a bete noire for the South Tyrolean having beaten him for the sixth time in as many matches, the 21-year-old blue equals his best ranking reaching ninth position.

Djokovic returns to number 1

For Sinner, the return to the top ten in the world is not a “meager consolation”, considering the excellent tournament held in Florida, in particular the epic semifinal against Carlos Alcarazformer number one in the world because, just after the Miami tournament, the Spaniard relinquished his lead to Novak Djokovic, thus returning to the lead despite not having taken part in the Masters in Florida and reaching a record of 380 overall weeks at the top. Going back to the blues, it’s the second final lost on hard courts in Miami: two years ago he surrendered to the Polish Hurkacz, but if he continues like this, there will be no shortage of opportunities, starting with the clay season which is now upon us. Sinner is then fourth in the ranking which considers only the placements of 2023, from which the qualifiers for the ATP Finals in Turin will come out. As for the other Italians, Lorenzo Musetti occupies the 21st position, Matthew Berrettini the 22nd while Lorenzo Sonego is back in the top 50 in the world, at number 47. In the top 100 there are also at number 96 Marco Cecchinato and at n.97 Fabio Fognini.

Bertolucci: ”The future is his”

”The defeat against Medvedev? It was obvious, the battle against Alcaraz was very tough and the waste left by that match hadn’t been disposed of on the rest day. He got up more tired than before, it happens, especially when the physique hasn’t fully developed yet ”. He tells Adnkronos Paul Bertolucci, commenting on the final in Miami lost by the blue against the Russian. ”Sinner played very well throughout the American tour – continues Bertolucci -. He has great difficulties against Medvedev’s characteristics, which are unique and fortunately only he has them. To beat him he had to be 100% ”. But the South Tyrolean ”has already shown that he is at a very high level: today it’s him, Alcaraz, Djokovic and Medvedev, these four are playing it now. And the next few years will be from Sinner and Alcaraz, and we hope also from Musetti”.
