Silverstone, McLaren speaks Italian who surprised Formula 1

SILVERSTONE – If Italy was talked about, and in Italian at the Silverstone GP, it is only thanks to Andrea Stella. The engineer from Orvieto, team principal of McLarenteam that deserved the Sunday standing ovation of the British public, bringing Lando Norris to the podium – in second place and touching him with Oscar Piastri (fourth). “But there are many other Italians who work in the team, it’s not just me” says Stella, an analytical technician who likes to keep a low profile. “For a simple reason: every circuit changes, as do the factors. So the basic thing that interests us is work. As a group”. This is his concept, his vision and policy. “We have to be a group, this is the only way we work and improve. And if someone doesn’t want to be part of it, he has to realize for himself that he is a foreign body ”.

Stella and her past at Ferrari

McLaren is the new protagonist of Formula 1, and the patron Zac Brown he was thrilled. She took to the stage in the last two GPs (Austria and Silverstone), now she can no longer be underestimated by the four that precede her: Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari. In short, there is a new suitor in the city and, for Andrea Stella, it is certainly a sort of personal revenge. He has been working at the McLaren Technology Center since 2015, and can boast over two decades of F1 experience behind him: he is not new to the paddock. Graduated in Aerospace Engineering at the Sapienza University of Rome, after obtaining a PhD in Mechanical Engineering he began his career in F1 as a performance engineer with Ferrari, initially in the test team and then moving on to the garage in Michael Schumacher in 2002. Three F1 world championships won, then he helped to bring triumph in 2007 Kimi Raikkonen. Subsequently here he is track engineer for Fernando Alonso, who followed to McLaren precisely in 2015, also becoming the team’s race operations manager.
