Short track, double podium for Cassinelli: in Seoul he takes a bronze and a silver

Andrea Cassinelli’s collection of medals is expanding. The short track World Championships on ice in Seoul brought two new gems to add to the showcase for the skater who grew up in the Turin Ice Team and since 2015 in the Velocisti Ghiaccio Turin, as well as a member of the Fiamme Gialle. After completing the individual efforts, yesterday together with his teammates he conquered a bronze in the medley relay and a silver in the men’s, in a review in which Italy collected the beauty of four podiums thanks also to the two acute by Pietro Sighel, winner in the 500 meters and second in the 1500.

In the medley, Cassinelli shared the lowest step with the Trentino rider and with her respective sister, Arianna Sighel as well as Arianna Valcepina and Chiara Betti (the latter ran in the quarterfinals) in a race that saw the Netherlands prevail in front of China. A great satisfaction for the 29-year-old from Turin who in the younger format of the short track had won with his teammates in the World Cup stage in Dresden, but without running in the final. This time, however, the manager Kenan Gouadec focused on him, also deploying him in the final act of the men’s team event, in which the blue quartet surrendered only to China, ahead of the hosts South Korea and a other battleship like Canada. This time to share the silver with the Piedmontese and with the ubiquitous Sighel were Tommaso Dotti and Luca Spechenhauser, together with Thomas Nadalini (used in the quarterfinals). After treading the European podium three times (1 silver and 2 bronze) and even the Olympic one twice, thanks to silver in the mixed and bronze in the men collected last year at the Beijing Games, Cassinelli has taken the whim of closing the circle and fill the rainbow gap.

Over the weekend, the Italian Championships await him on ice at the PalaTazzoli, to round off the season in front of his home crowd and friends who shared with him the first skates that brought him into the gotha ​​of international short track.
