Everything is ready for the draw for the 2023/24 Serie A calendar. The appointment is at 12.30 (live on Dazn, Sky Sport 24 and, in streaming, on the Lega Serie A Youtube channel). The championship will start on 20 August (more likely on 19 with the first advances) and will end on 26 May 2024 to make room for the European Championships which will be held in Germany.

Confirmed asymmetrical calendar, outward journey different from return

Several innovations are expected to draw up the picture of the 380 matches but also several confirmations, starting with the decision to use the asymmetrical calendar, according to which, therefore, the sequence of matches in the first round will be different from those in the second round. An algorithm will be used for the draw in which a series of “criteria and constraints have been inserted which allow attention to be paid to the needs of the Municipalities and the balance of some major events that can have an impact on the championship”, explained the Head of Competitions and Operations of Lega Serie A Andrea Butti.

At most 2 matches in a row at home or away per group per team

In particular, there cannot be more than two pairs of consecutive matches at home and/or away per group for each team, in addition to the absolute alternation of home and away matches for Empoli-Fiorentina, Inter-Milan, Juventus-Turin, Lazio-Rome and Naples-Salernitana.

No derbies or super challenges in the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 19th and 38th rounds

Furthermore, in the 1st, 2nd and 38th matchday, in the midweek weekday shift (6th matchday) and in the matchday that precedes it (5th matchday) as well as in the matchday before the Italian Super Cup (19th a) matches between Atalanta, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Milan, Naples and Rome are not possible, as are the derbies in Milan, Rome and Turin and those in Campania and Tuscany.

Only one derby per day possible

Looking again at the derbies, the indication is that all the derby games will have to take place on different days, while the teams participating in the European cups will not be able to meet on the days between two rounds of UEFA competitions (25/a, 28/a, 32/ ae 35/day).

A midweek shift, 4 stops and no Christmas break

Finally, among the novelties there is also the fact that there will be only one midweek round (Wednesday 27 September), with the other 37 days taking place over the weekend. On the other hand, there will be four stops for the national teams, given that Serie A will stop on Sunday 10 September 2023, Sunday 15 October 2023, Sunday 19 November 2023 and Sunday 24 March 2024. Finally, no break for the Christmas holidays: we will take the field on December 23 (Saturday), 30 (another Saturday) and finally on January 6 (Sunday).
