Sergio Brighenti died, his first blue goal at Wembley – Football

He died in the night in Arluno (Milan) at the age of 90, Sergio Brighenti, former football player and coach. The family announced the news through a press release, released by Christian Pravatà, author of the biographical book “Sergio Brighenti – From the Salesians to Wembley”, explaining that the death was caused by a sudden illness. Brighenti was one of the greatest and most prolific strikers in the history of the Italian league.

Two league titles with Inter

Active from 1949 to 1965, he scored 155 goals between Serie A and Serie B. Winner of two league titles with the jersey ofInter in the years 1952/53 and 1953/54, with Italy he was the first Italian player to score for the English national team in the stadium of Wembley. In Serie A he holds the record for goals scored in a season with the Sampdoria shirt (28 goals in the 1960/61 season), a record for goals with coach Nereo Rocco’s Padua (50 goals in three seasons) and is one of the flagships of Modena. This is Sergio Brighenti’s palmares as a football player who, in addition to a great career on the pitch, held the position of federal coach with the Italian national team alongside Azeglio Vicini during Euro ’88 and Italy ’90.

Thanks to Sergio Brighenti, many Italian footballers have been discovered and launched into great football. His is the title of top scorer in the 1960/61 season, which he manages to snatch from Omar Sivori, Juventus striker, friend and roommate in the national team. Brighenti was awarded the title of Official Knight of the Italian Republic in 1991. His face became popular in the nineties for his participation in the Rai program “A tutto B”, on the cadet championship.
