Sassuolo-Bologna 1-1: authorial goals from Berardi and Dominguez

The Emilian derby between Sassuolo and Bologna ends 1-1: a result that does little to change the rankings of the two teams and allows Fiorentina to remain eighth, despite the defeat in Naples. Bologna leaves the Mapei Stadium with an extra smile both because they avoid defeat thanks to a goal by Dominguez and because they keep a 2-point lead over the black and greens in the crowded race for a possible place in the Conference.

Berardi unlocks the result

Game played at a slow pace, where the little arm and prudence on the desire to win take over. Two teams now stabilized on the left side of the standings with the aim of continuing their growth path and playing proactive football. After the uncertainty of the first few minutes, Sassuolo increased their intensity and found the opening goal in the 15th minute with Berardi, good at escaping Cambiaso and electrocuting Skorupski at the near post. The guests felt the pinch and struggled to develop the maneuver through the central streets and to find the attackers. On the other hand, the black and greens created little after the lead: only Henrique wasted in the 39th minute by kicking centrally from inside the penalty area.

Dominguez equalized before the break

From the possible 2-0 for Sassuolo to the equalizer before the break: Bologna in the 43rd minute makes it 1-1 with a flash from Dominguez, good at catching the top corner with a shot from the edge. Encouraging last 10′ of time for Motta’s team, always careful not to give reference points. The second half resumed along the lines of the first: slow pace and few chances. The ball movement of both teams is slow and lacks the leap from the higher quality players. Both Dionisi and Thiago Motta understand that it’s time to draw fresh strength from their benches: respectively Laurientè on one side and Arnautovic on the other stand up for the last 25′. Bologna seem to believe in victory more than the hosts, but lack precision in the last few metres. The last ring of the evening is from Arnautovic in the 80th minute, but his shot is weak and central.
