Rublev wins the Montecarlo Masters, beaten in the final by Rune in three sets

Andrey Rublev won the Montecarlo Masters 1000. In the final, the 25-year-old Russian, number 6 in the world, beat the Dane in three sets Holger rune, 9 in the ranking, with a score of 5-7 6-2 7-5 in two hours and 34′ of play. For Rublev it is the 13th title of his career. Not only that: he is the sixth Russian to triumph in a Masters 1000 after Safin (5 titles for him), Medvedev (4), Davydenko (3), Chesnokov (2) and Khachanov (1). Finally, in the Principality, Chesnokov follows who, in 1990, defeated Thomas Muster.

Rune can console himself with statistics: he is the fifth teenager in the Open Era in the final in Montecarlo after Wilander (1983), Mancini (1989), Andrei Medvedev (1994) and obviously Nadal. But, objectively, he will have a lot to complain about: after taking the first set, balanced up to 5-5, the next twenty year old (on April 29) had to catch his breath, clearly giving up the second set (6-2).

In the third, the match seemed to have found its master: the Dane seemed to have regained his energy, while Rublev seemed tarnished. Conclusion: 4-1 for Rune and 5-1 ball. Here, the mystery of tennis has once again triumphed. What happened in the space of a few moments, only the two of them will know (and it is not even said).

The Dane slowed down, the Russian took the chance: from a virtually closed match we returned to a 4-4 that made the spectators happy. The balance remained intact until 5-5, then Rune threw away his serve (to nil), and Rublev was able to lay down for happiness.
