It has always been clear to us, but the recent energy crisis has made everyone discover that, in Italy, 15 years of subsidies (over 200 billion) and almost exclusive attention to the development of intermittent renewable sources (wind and photovoltaic) have made it possible, in 2021, to cover only 3.4% of final energy consumption (1.79 Mtoe of wind and 2.14 Mtoe of photovoltaic), and that this effort proved to be inadequate in the face of the emergency. It has also proved useless due to the decrease in climate-altering emissions, which have indeed increased if we calculate the emissions from coal in the solar sector.
