Alfredo Trentalange has resigned from the office of president of the Italian Referees Association. The Hague itself announces it in a note, adding that tonight, at 9 pm, “the members of the National Committee of the Association will meet the presidents of the respective macro-regions via videocall to explain the reasons for this choice”.
At the head of the Assoarbitri since February 2021, when he defeated the outgoing president Marcello Nicchi in the elections, in recent weeks Trentalange had had to deal with the D’Onofrio case, the Hague prosecutor arrested for international drug trafficking.

After the loss of arbitration, passed under the aegis of the Football Federation, the number one from The Hague was thus also targeted by the federal prosecutor Chinè, who had charged him, among the “disciplinarily relevant” conduct, the violation of art. . 4.1 of the sports justice code, or the duty to behave according to the principles of loyalty, probity and correctness, having among other things – as head of the Assoarbitri – the responsibility of appointing the heads of the AIA justice bodies. According to the prosecution, Trentalange – heard on Friday by Chinè himself – allegedly omitted any initiative aimed at ascertaining D’Onofrio’s real professional and moral requirements.
