Last month, to participate in an open-air show organized by another champion, Ilya Averbukh (silver in Salt Lake City 2022), he trained, already feverish, at very low temperatures. So last January 10, the emergency hospitalization arrived in Kommunarka, on the outskirts of Moscow, with a very high fever. And from that moment an infinite ordeal began: bilateral pneumonia, loss of consciousness, infection that spread throughout the body, artificial coma, amputation of the feet and some fingers. Later he was also affected by a stroke: Intracerebral hematoma with acute phase in the frontal lobe, gray and white matter lesions. A truly desperate situation, so much so that a specialist has been flanked by him who can help him metabolize what happened and can accompany him in these first moments of awakening.

There is very little news that leaks out, but the rumors coming from the hospital where Kostomarov is hospitalized are not good. In fact, doctors fear his heart may not hold up to another hand amputation needed to eliminate the risk of possible gangrene. The Russian seems to be almost unrecognizable and, unfortunately for him, the road is bloody uphill.
