Mourning in the world of rally. Irish Hyundai driver Craig Breen has died at the age of 33 after a crash in Croatia. The driver was engaged in the reconnaissance lap on the roads of the Croatian course, in view of the stage of the World Rally Championship scheduled for next week. The news was given in a note by the Korean manufacturer for which Breen raced, in which we read that Hyundai motorsport “is deeply saddened” by the accident that occurred to Breen. And again: “The Hyundai family sends its sincere condolences to Craig’s family, friends and his many fans. Hyundai will not be issuing further comments at this time.”

Condolences also from the WRC, the international body of the world of rallying, which says it is “shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Craig Breen. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Craig’s family and friends at this moment incredibly sad.”

Breen second in Sweden

Breen returned to Hyundai earlier this season finishing second in Rally Sweden behind Tanak, equaling his best World Championship result achieved in Sweden in 2018, Estonia in 2020 and 2021, Belgium in 2021 and in Sardinia last year.
