Qatar sends World Cup containers – Corriere.it

Not only Argentina’s victory and the many wonderful moments that a world championship offers, but also the containers – negatively – were the protagonists of Qatar 2022. Used by the fans, they turned out to be cramped spaces at 200 euros per night (for a minimum four nights, therefore 800 euros).

But many, many, were the problems of this choice. And many, many, were the complaints: insufficient air conditioning (27 degrees during the day), already torn carpet, very hard beds. Not only. Excessive noise produced by the air conditioners, to the point of having to turn them off at night, and even worse situations in the tents, considered more high-end. With exposed slippers instead of sockets and dark water gushing from the taps. In short, a really sad image to surround a world championship review.

And yet, these infamous containers, as the Sunhave sensationally found another accommodation, after remaining unused at the end of the World Cup. Qatar has offered them as homes for displaced people in Turkey and Syria, affected by the tragic earthquake of February 6 that killed more than 50,000 people. It is a donation of 10,000 homes and the first batch is already arriving in Turkey on Friday 3 March. So derided and mistreated these containers, home to 60,000 fans during the World Cup, were donated. They are leaving the desert surrounding Doha and may contain two single beds or one double bed, a bathroom, a small table and chairs, a mini-fridge and hot drink facilities.

A vessel carrying the first batch of 350 mobile homes left Qatar for Turkey on February 13. So far, so good, but there are many doubts about this humanitarian considered somewhat controversial: They are livable only in the short term, wrote a user on social media who says he lived there for 11 days during the tournament. And there are those who point out just how uncomfortable the beds were. But finally, there are also those who applaud the Qatari initiative.
