Pope Francis paints «Santo Messi» for World Champion Argentina in the new work by Maupal-Corriere.it

Pope Francis celebrates the victory of his Argentina at the World Cup by painting a Lionel Messi mural
, captain and symbol of the Selección albiceleste. So MaupalRoman street artist who became famous for his Super Pope, wanted to make tribute to the two most influential Argentine figures of the moment: Pope Bergoglio and the footballer who lifted the World Cup to the sky yesterday.

In the drawing, made on paperMauro Pallotta aka Maupal depicted Francesco holding a paint bucket and a brush still fresh after painting the portrait of Messi, surrounded by the halo of the righteous.

“When the game that consecrated Argentina ended, my thoughts went to Pope Francis – says Maupal, born Mauro Pallotta – I imagined that as a football lover he was happy for the triumph of his national team and I found a way to celebrate both through this designmade on an impromptu basis”.

Last Wednesday the street artist was received in audience by the Popeto which he donated an unpublished work entitled «Push for peace» made especially on the occasion of his 86th birthday, Saturday 17 ofpine. Maupal became famous for the Super Pope mural painted in 2014 and depicting the Pope in the classic pose of Superman holding the «Valores» briefcase.
