The big favorite of the eve with Remco Evenepoel crashes, hit by Frlich Honor. He tries to restart but they are both forced to leave

Tadej Pogacar, great favorite on the eve together with the world champion Remco Evenepoel, outside Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The Slovenian, in fact, withdrew after crashing when there were about 85 kilometers (and another 170 to go) of the last of the spring classics.

The crash also involved other riders, but Pogacar and the Dane suffered the worst Mikkel Frlich Honor, both forced to abandon. The UAE Emirates had tried to wait for the new Merckx, in vain: it was not able to leave again. At that time, the broadcast of the race had not yet started and, at the moment, there are no images available.

The 24-year-old Pogacar — who was aiming for a hat-trick in the Ardennes classics after victories in the Freccia Walloon and the Amstel Gold Race, a feat only achieved by the unfortunate Davide Rebellin in 2004 and Gilbert in 2011, but having already won the Tour of Flanders, first overall — reported the suspected fracture to a wrist and is on his way to the hospital for x-rays of the case.

So far Pogacar had achieved ten successes in the 2023 World Tour (more than half of the teams combined), and the stage races Paris-Nice and Vuelta Andalucia.
