The post of the Lusitanians to present Tuesday’s match valid for the round of 16 of the Champions League seems to be the summary of the most sinister characterizations of Italy

Not everyone liked Porto’s way of presenting tomorrow’s match, Tuesday 14 March, against Inter, valid for the second leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League. There is a pizza chef with a Nerazzurri scarf and a big mustache intent on delivering a pizza bearing the Inter crest. All this while speeding on one Wasp adorned with the tricolor. In short, once again an image that leaves no room for misunderstandings in terms of symbols and references, showing off a fair sampling of clichés linked to our country.

A post that the Port published on its social channels, which immediately collected more than 1500 likes, retweets and comments. Not everyone liked it. Many Inter fans wanted to be ironic and joke about it: Pizza rightly so because putting the smog and CO2 of the Po Valley would have been too complicated for the graphic designer. Some fans, on the other hand, point out that perhaps, in the post, the cutlet would have been better than the pizza, given the Milanese nature of the Nerazzurri. However, there are also those who are irritated by the umpteenth game above all common places: Lambretta and pizza. The mandolin is just missing. Or again: All we need are gondolas and the Colosseum. To help the Interisti, some Portuguese fans: The pizza is better than the Francesinha, the typical Lusitanian dish that resembles a sandwich.

Not the first time that someone decides to play with clichés about Italy. Suffice it to recall what the German press did on the eve of Germany-Italy in 2006, World Cup semifinal won by Marcello Lippi’s Azzurri thanks to goals from Grosso and Del Piero in extra time. They provoked us with a pizza goodbye, on the front page of the Bild. Before that, again in Germany, the tune (which went viral) by the German comedian Matze Knop dedicated to Luca Toni, naturally full of clichés. As then, tomorrow too the field will have these controversies archived. With Inter trying to return to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after 12 years.
