Perez fast and Sainz slow in the Baku GP? A matter of mind, not of track – Corriere.it

Sergio Perez is strong on city tracks? I think it is not so. Carlos Sainz does not digest the Baku track? I think it is not so.

Just as there are pilots who, mentally, do not always find a perfect attitude at this or that race. On the other hand, there are champions who manifest themselves at a high level everywhere. The Red Bull and Ferrari couples are similar in some ways. They are made up of drivers capable of driving at their best in practically all circumstances, namely Verstappen and Leclercand by pilots who they don’t always manage to express themselves at the highest levels, meaning Perez and Sainz. Which also can offer exceptional competitions as a result of a particular psychological motivation.

All this does not depend on the nature of the tracks. Baku, Montecarlo, Melbourne: they are all tracks designed within a city or an urban environment but they are completely different from each other. More simply, going back to talking about Perez, very fast, or Sainz, in difficulty in Azerbaijan, I wouldn’t take into consideration the place where a race is held, but the mental approach that each driver applies at a time and therefore on a specific circuit. In short, I don’t think it’s a question of the track but of the head.
