Beautiful game, Bari got off to a better start but then Palermo regained the field and became dangerous

Of Pasquale Caputi

A goal by Marconi in the final minutes of the match condemns Bari to defeat against Palermo. At the “Barbera” the team coached by Corini wins 1-0. Mignani’s is mocked at the most beautiful, in some ways unexpected.

Bari starts well with its heavy trident Cheddira-Folorunsho-Ceter, and in the 4th minute Ceter could already take the lead. After a cross from Mazzotta and from a good position, the Colombian striker found opposition from Pigliacelli, the Palermo goalkeeper. The Sicilians respond above all on set football, and in three circumstances they could go on. First with Damiani, who however kicks badly from a good position, then with Saric, who finds Cheddira on the trajectory, then with Brunori, who however has to deal with a great Caprile at the near post. Not that Bari is watching, on the contrary it gives the feeling of being dangerous especially in the open field. For example in the 42nd minute, when Ceter goes one step away from his first goal of the season with a right foot that almost punishes the indecision of Marconi and Pigliacelli. The match, very conditioned by rain and wind, is pleasant, with the two teams very intense in trying to bring home the entire stake. The hosts work well especially on the left, with Dorval often finding himself in trouble against Di Mariano and Sala. But the guests hold up and it’s 0-0 for half-time.

The second half opens with Salcedo in place of Ceter, a move that Mignani probably adopts to give more vivacity and less physicality to his team’s attack. Salcedo, for his part, immediately enters the game well, committing Pigliacelli with a right from distance. Bari grows and builds the most delicious chance to unlock the match: Folorunsho is good at letting Cheddira run, who, only in front of Pigliacelli, is not cold as has often happened up to now and shoots the ball at him. Botta also enters the field, and the Argentine immediately puts himself on display with a high right foot, at the culmination of an initiative that is by no means trivial. When the progress of the match seems to have become linear, Palermo however takes the lead. A goal in the scrum, that of the rosanero, with a rebound between Maiello and Marconi that makes the ball go crazy, so crazy that Caprile can only stand by and watch. The match got nervous, but the result didn’t change and Cheddira was even sent off for a second yellow card within a few minutes. Bari loses for the first time in 2023 and does not move the standings. Remain fourth, mockingly, awaiting today’s results.
