Pakistan, houses and three literacy centers for the children of brick kiln workers

Toba Tek Singh (Punjab State – AsiaNews) – The Human Development Society, run by Bonnie Mendes and Simon Khursheed, two priests, is building a new town called Bonnieabad in Mureedwala, Toba Tek Singh district of Punjab, and new homes for brick kiln workers and homeless people and three literacy centers . After assessing the needs, the Society decided to build literacy centers for the poor children of the village, because there is no adequate school in the village and, on the other hand, the poor brick kiln workers cannot afford to send their children to private schools. For this reason, with the help of foreign friends, the Human Development Society decided to build literacy centers for these poor children in Bonnieabad.

The goal of protecting the poorest. Bonnie Mendes said: “Three literacy center classrooms now have about 60 children sitting in their little chairs around colorful round tables. We have only one goal – added Mendes – to serve the poor community. We now have 60 children in classes but I believe more will be joining us in the coming months. From here they will learn how to help improve society in the future. We will continue to work for them and try to expand our services.” There Human Development Society in Toba Tek Singh runs about twenty institutions, including beauty salons, literacy centers and training centers for poor girls and women

A dream that comes true. Nasreen Barkat, a brick kiln worker and mother of three, said: “It is a blessing for us that our children go to school and study for a better future. We have been working in brick kilns for generations and I never thought that my children could study in such a healthy environment. For us it is like a dream come true: I hope that our children no longer work in the furnaces and that they start their own business to help improve the future of this village and of society ”.
