The Federal Attorney’s Office accepted the club’s request for a settlement (the payments had been partially made). Genoa remain second in the Serie B standings, 12 points behind Frosinone

A penalty point to be served during the current football season and a 6,000 euro fine to the managing director Andres Blazquez. The news had already been in the air for a few weeks, today it was also made official by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, which accepted Genoa’s plea bargain request and inflicted on the rossobl club only -1 in the standings (the penalty points could have even been two) probably by virtue of the fact that part of the payments of personal income tax relating to the months of September and October 2022 had been carried out. However, at the deadline for compliance – set for December 16, 2022 – despite the club having a positive balance on the bank account, the full payment of the disputed withholding taxes had not been made.

A unanimous opinion, expressed by both the Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the Sports Prosecutor’s Office at CONI. Genoa, following the penalty imposed on them, thus sees their ranking change — not even much: the rossobl team, after the victory over Palermo at Ferraris last Friday (2-0 with goals from Gudmundsson and Jagiello in the final), had reached share 43, with Frosinone 11 points above and the direct pursuers Bari, Reggina and Sudtirol at 39. Today the gap from the Ciociaria club increases to 12, while all the teams at 39 have nibbled away a point from the Grifone, thus placing themselves at -3 from Genoa, engaged next Sunday on the Modena field.
