The story of the new Inter & Milan stadium, treated up to now as the new San Siro, may have to change its definition and contours. Stop being of Inter&Milan together, in the meantime. And maybe in the end not even lead to the demolition of San Siro anymore. Logic says so. Nothing has been decided, no steps have been taken, but the thermometer registers a cooling of both the plan as conceived up to now (demolition of the Meazza, construction of the new Cathedral or what will be in the adjacent area, within a project redevelopment with offices and green areas), and above all of the idea that the two clubs continue together. the conclusion reached by lining up the facts and connecting all the dots. With order.

In the meantime, why not together anymore: Inter is facing a delicate corporate phase, which Milan fans know well from having experienced it in the recent past. The Zhang family has a different stature than the mysterious Yonghong Li, but the investment restrictions imposed by the Chinese government are well known, as is the 275 million loan that must be repaid or renegotiated in 2024 with the Oaktree fund (which otherwise would become the owner, like Elliott with Milan), and also the rumors from the world of finance that speak of the mandate entrusted to Raine Group and Goldman Sachs to find a buyer, which could soon be concluded. However it ends up, not a minor unknown that hangs on the plan. And this is why Milan (with the push of the new owner Gerry Cardinale) was, and will increasingly be, forced to consider plans B, C and D, to build the stadium on its own, whether it is in Sesto San Giovanni, in San Donato, in Rozzano or in the last area taken into consideration, that of the La Maura racecourse, also in San Siro, which has the enormous advantage of being private. The 150 million that would be saved by not demolishing the Meazza and not building the underpass foreseen in the original plan must be discounted for the higher costs of building the stadium alone.

And Inter? If and when there is, the new ownership will decide, otherwise it could stay at San Siro in the meantime, perhaps restoring it (and renegotiating the conditions with the Municipality).

To all this we must add that the project of the new San Siro (not abandoned, mind you), certainly does not have the road paved. The issue of the restriction, raised by Undersecretary Sgarbi, now seems to have been overcome by the reassurances of Minister Sangiuliano, but in the latest council resolution, the Municipality has nevertheless put its hands forward, with a sentence that has aroused a minimum of alert (give a mandate to the competent municipal offices to promptly consult the competent bodies regarding the possibility that the “Meazza” stadium, even in the immediate future, will be brought back to the category of restricted public goodshaving to necessarily derive from this circumstance the feasibility of the approval process).

Just a warning, but there is no feeling that the Municipality is pushing for the shortest way to carry out the project. If we add the additional conditions asked of the clubs after the end of the public debate (some considered impossible to achieve), there is certainly no shortage of obstacles. An agreement with the Municipality can still be found, we need to see if it makes sense to seek it today.
