«Naturalia et Mirabilia», the solo show that the Neapolitan artist Anna Corcione inaugurates at the Sibaritide National Museum on Friday 16 December (curated by Anna Cuomo, at 6.30 pm) is made up of a series of unpublished site-specific works, canvases enriched from vegetable fragments collected in the archaeological park: a gesture that wants to be a delicate – as is the artist’s style – homage to the local community, from which starts a reflection on the man-nature relationship that places the Mater back at the center, as the main one – or probably unique and true – custodian of our deepest roots and therefore, of our history. An operation born on the spot, therefore, in line with the new cultural policy of the Archaeological Park which intends to weave stronger and more active ties with the public, working on the museum’s identity so that it effectively becomes a community one.

Filippo Demma, also a Neapolitan, at the head of the Park and of the Regional Directorate of Calabria Museums – as well as one of the proponents of a network of archaeological sites that reaches Paestum in the Salerno area and, moreover, of daring excavation works that intend to bring to light the legendary Sibari “submerged” – thus introduces Anna Corcione: «The temporary exhibition “Naturalia et Mirabilia” has as its protagonists fragments of the landscape of the Sibaritide as it inspired the artist. Nothing is left to chance in the works that follow one another in the rooms of the Museum: each is linked to the archaeological context in which it is placed, enhancing its peculiarities in a constant dialogue between past and present, ancient and contemporary horizon. “Naturalia et Mirabilia” is an inseparable combination of nature and culture, it is observing the ancient world through unusual eyes or using unusual tools, the artistic transfiguration of the characteristic botanical species, thus approaching the very close relationship that has always linked the human being and his choices to the environment that welcomed him and in which he chose to live. Relationship already made clear by the macro-remains found in the sanctuary of the oriental divinities of the Roman Copiae, here on display for the first time to the public. The installation of the works of “Naturalia et Mirabilia” therefore inaugurates new new forms of dialogue and interaction between the Museum and the community, archeology and the territory».

Anna Corcione lives and works between Naples and Florence, but often exhibits in France and Spain above all. This is how Anna Cuomo who curates the exhibition at the Museo della Sibaritide tells it: «She made her debut at the Atelier Corcione guided by a passion for classical art and painting, inspired by the richness of the historical-artistic heritage of Naples. Her creative process is fueled by the constant desire for experimentation and her research moves from a classicist language to the study of pictorial matter. Her degree in Design pushes her to explore. Having abandoned figuration, he makes room for an abstraction that recovers contact with reality with the insertion of unusual textures, materials and volumes: he mixes oil paint and acrylic paint and patiently stabilizes them through the insertion of expertly dosed natural elements . So she uses different processes, combining fillers, pigments, natural powders, glosses, cottons, plasters, which intersect without ever overlapping or dominating each other. Your exhibitions are numerous both in Italy and abroad in public and private spaces, you often create works on public commission ».
