Nami, a new space for art and design

To inaugurate the space on Thursday 10 November, from 4.30 to 8 pm, the solo show of the artist Pietro Finelli, curated by Valentina Rippa. On display, in addition to four large oil paintings, a series of drawings on paper made in pencil and pastels: emotional collages made of thick sheets that the artist folds to create a grid of rectangles, a network of thoughts and memories, nocturnal scenarios in which abstract figures, words and shapes move.

A visual style in dialogue with cinema in which narrative elements present in most of Pietro Finelli’s artistic production recur: light and shadow, depth of field, black and white contrasted without neglecting the use of color. A transversal research that draws from classical painting to photography, from poetry to the psychology of art with a variety of references attributable to the sphere of the unconscious trait d’union between the artist Pietro Finelli and many significant directors of the Noir period.

Finelli’s work – taking up the curator’s words – represents a unitary corpus, while showing apparent contrasts and ranging between multiple genres, from figurative to landscape to abstraction and then settling on an indissoluble compositional vein from cinema due to the complexity of settings and pathos of the portrayed characters. A transversal research which, while drawing from different fields, brings everything back to the deepest sphere of Noir, investigating the unconscious, the enigma and the psychology of art understood as the space of memory, language, emotions. The observer totally involved with the mind in this acute and founding darkness, which invites us not to stop at appearances, to pierce the screen of conventions and vision and go beyond.
