The Roma coach waited in the Puskas Arena bus parking lot for the match director to shower him with insults: Lamela’s missed yellow card and a penalty for Fernando’s handball were in his sights

That José Mourinho’s disappointment after the Europa League final loss on penalties against Sevilla was enormous was immediately clear from the words he spoke into the microphones: the claims regarding the future and the requests he will make to the Friedkins («I want to stay , but I deserve more», he said), and then the heavy criticism of Anthony Taylor’s refereeing (“He looked like a Spanish referee”).

The night did not continue in a less agitated way: Mourinho waited for the referee in the bus parking lot of the Puskas Arena to shout his anger at the cuts during the match: «You are a f… a disgrace», the phrase that a video has intercepted, while the UEFA designator, Robert Rosettishe tried to calm him down. Without succeeding too much since the Roma coach (who, among other things, had also refused during the awards ceremony the medal that goes to the defeated) was chasing the minibus that was carrying the referee away, continuing to shout insults at him (in English because he understood).

The fierce protests of Mourinho in Taylor’s refereeing they concentrated above all on the management of the cards (the second yellow missed by the former giallorosso Lamela, who then converted one of Sevilla’s penalties) up to the penalty not awarded to Roma, whose images he didn’t even want to review: Fernando’s hand touch was evident right away, even if it could be argued that it was close to the body and whether his movement was congruous or not, but it’s the referee’s failure to see the images that infuriated Roma and their fans. Not only. Because the anger was increased shortly before by the penalty whistled after a non-existent foul on Ocampos: the Argentine had let himself fall in the area and Taylor had immediately pointed to the penalty spot, but after a quick review the referee realized that Ibanez had touched the ball and not the opponent. A bad evening for the English whistle and a nightmare for the Giallorossi: «Even Rosetti was able to say that it wasn’t a penalty and you weren’t able. You don’t see the shame in your faces», Mourinho’s outburst against the referee Taylor after the match.

At the end of the race, however, the Special One, while the Andalusians celebrated on the lawn of the Puskas Arena, had called his players together. «You played a great game in front of Europe. You win and you lose together. Be proud of what you’ve done.”
