Between the redemptions of players who have become mandatory and the prizes accrued with their stay in Serie A, Monza has to spend 45.7 million from the budget. Galliani: «Our budget cannot be in order after Silvio Berlusconi led the team from C to A»

Tonight against Mourinho’s Roma, decimated by absences, Monza will celebrate their premature salvation, obtained six days early. It hadn’t happened since the 2004-2005 season for a newly promoted player who had never played in Serie A.

The Giallorossi in the middle of the Champions League race, paired with 57 points to the two Milanese, will do well not to underestimate the Brianza players who, in theory, no longer have goals to achieve. In reality, they have an economic goal. Adriano Galliani in fact fixed two awards, announced – coincidentally – the morning of the victory over Spezia: one in case of conquest of the tenth place, the other in case of obtaining the eighth.

In the meantime, however, the price of staying in Serie A is not indifferent. Last year the club carried out several market operations with the loan formula and the redemption subject to the achievement of certain objectives, or rather the permanence in the top flight. According to what emerges from the Monza financial statements as at 31 December 2022, in the section “Obligations towards other sports clubs”the club specifies that “as part of the market operations, the club has contracted obligations towards other sports clubs subject to the fulfillment of certain suspension clauses for a maximum total 39 million 520 thousand 500 euros». This is the amount that will be invested for the now mandatory redemptions of Caprari from Verona, Cragno from Cagliari, Pablo Marì from Arsenal, Pessina from Atalanta and Petagna from Naples. Not only. By avoiding relegation, «obligations towards registered players» also accrued, i.e. «the recognition of individual prizes for the players and staff up to a total maximum of 6 million 164 thousand 500 euros». By adding the two figures, it can be seen from the balance sheet that the salvation will cost Fininvest, which Monza belongs to, up to 45.7 million total euros. Galliani justifies himself: «Our budget cannot be in order. After all, how could it be after Silvio Berlusconi led the team from C to A?». True, but it is no coincidence that Fininvest, as revealed by Courieris looking for a minority shareholder to keep costs down.
