Milan Cortina, the IOC gives the green light to speed skating at the Fiera: Turin out of the game

The IOC gives the green light to Milan to host the speed skating competitions at the 2026 Winter Olympics: the site chosen will be the new Fiera in Rho Pero. Thus the last hopes of Turin, which for a long time tried to get back into the running for the Games with the Oval which hosted the 2006 edition, fell apart. A desperate attempt, after having unloaded the Olympic candidacy at the time of the Appendino junta. The executive director announced the change Christophe Dubiduring the IOC executive committee taking place in Lausanne.

“Milano Cortina presented us with the situation of the facilities for the 2026 Winter Olympics” explained Dubi. “As you know, the plan to hold the speed skating competitions in Baselga di Pinè has been abandoned, in exchange for a temporary solution which we have discussed: this is excellent news for us”.

The “temporary solution” obviously does not refer to the Oval which is part of the urban fabric of Turin, but to the mega demountable facility that will be built in Milan. Ready to welcome speed skating too, and all its large audience, especially from Holland.
