Andrea Varnier is the name proposed by the Minister of Sport for the position of CEO of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Foundation. The official appointment now belongs to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Born in Verona, 58, Varnier was CEO of Filmmaster Events, the company that oversaw the opening ceremonies of the last Olympics and also of some editions of the European Football Championship since 2012 (Poland and Ukraine), but in over 30 for years he has taken care of the management of many international events and is linked to the Olympic world. His ‘debut’ in this field dates back to 2001 as image and event director of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.

Subsequently he was a councilor of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Beijing 2008 Games (from whose experience he took inspiration to publish the book entitled ‘Beijing 2008 Ceremonies – The Experience’), then he was also the managing director of Cerimonias Cariocas 2016, the Brazilian consortium of which Filmmaster Events was a partner, for the realization of the Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies, the trip of the Olympic and Paralympic torch and the welcome ceremonies to the athletes who, for the first time, were entrusted to only one society. In 2020 he left Filmmaster Events and is now preparing to become the CEO of Milan-Cortina.
