Mattia De Sciglio: “It’s a duty for us athletes to set an example in the fight for the climate”

Also Mattia De Sciglio30 years old, defender of the Juventus wanted to join the “Captains for the climate” petition which asks Serie A to bring the captains to the field with a band dedicated to the environment on World Earth Day on 22 April next.

It adheres to Sport for Nature, an association that unites and rewards athletes who stand out for their actions for the planet, and has now decided to join the “Captains for the climate” petition. How important is it for the institutions to support these values ​​and these initiatives?
“I strongly believe in initiatives like this and for us sportsmen, having the opportunity to join them personally and be an example must be a duty, because with the media power we have we can bring more and more people to become aware of such a delicate and crucial issue for our future, and to leave our children a better world”.

How important are small daily gestures beyond these initiatives? Yours especially which ones I am?
“Everyone must put the maximum effort into giving their contribution, therefore the little ones daily gestures are very important. I try to limit the consumption of water and energy as much as possible, and when I go shopping I am very careful with the purchase of eco-sustainable products”.

There are many conquests to be made and the match is certainly longer than 90 minutes. The beauty is that you can all play it together. In addition to the institutions, captains, fellow players, clubs and yours club, Juventus who support you in this cause, if you could ask for a gesture for the environment ai your fans and to all the fans of Italy what would it be?
“I would definitely ask them too to avoid excessive water consumption, buy organic products that can support natural production, or offferentiate the rifiuti, or still help plant trees to get the oxygen emitted to help fight the climate change which is now there for all to see and a priority that can no longer be postponed”.

“In my opinion it would be nice if every company created other initiatives, or donated time and even just a small part of the assets in favor of non-profit organizations and organizations that deal with sustainability because we have the means to implement more and more concrete initiatives for make football itself sustainable. We athletes are here.”
