There Honda has decided to present an appeal to the Fim Appeal Commission against the method in which the penalty was decided against Marc Marquezresponsible for the accident involving Miguel Oliveira last Sunday in Portimao during the first race of the season.

The penalty for Marquez

At the end of the race, in which Marquez – who started from pole – hit Oliveira in full, the international federation punished Marquez with a double long lap penalty to be served in the Argentine GP scheduled for next Sunday. However, when it emerged that the Spaniard would not race at Termad de Rio Hondo following the operation on his right hand fractured in the same accident, the FIM moved the sanction to the first GP in which he will be able to participate. Then, presumably, to the Austin one in mid-April.

Honda: “Modification not in line with regulation”

In a statement, the Repsol Honda Team states that it believes “this modification of the sanction was issued by the FIM… after the initial sanction was final” and that this “is not in line with the current FIM regulations for the Championship of the MotoGP World”. For this reason, “the Repsol Honda Team intends to make use of all the remedies offered by current legislation to defend its rights and legitimate interests, which it believes have been violated following the latest resolution adopted”.
