Luiss is among the greenest and most sustainable universities in the world according to the UI GreenMetric World University ranking, which rewards universities’ commitment on a global scale to environmental change, energy saving, infrastructure and transport sustainability.

The six criteria considered – Setting and Infrastracture, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, Education & Research – have brought the Free International University of Social Studies into the shortlist of the top 20 greenest universities in the world among the 1050 examined, winning over 200 positions since 2018 and finishing, this year, in nineteenth place. The University named after Guido Carli is also confirmed as first in Italy for the “Energy and Climate Change” category.

“This new and important result rewards Luiss’ great commitment to the issue of sustainability. Every day we learn with the students to develop a profound sensitivity on urgent and no longer postponeable trajectories, including attention to energy consumption and the relationship with the environment. Thanks to the strong investment we have made in recent years to get our kids used to thinking and living in a green way, tomorrow’s young talents will also export good practices to the world of work, positively transforming the realities in which they will operate” declared the Director General of Luiss John Lo Storto.

“Luiss works to ensure that sustainability is integrated into its ecosystem, stimulating the members of its community to offer an active contribution in its three dimensions: environmental, social and economic. – they say from the university – The University has, in fact, equipped a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to monitor the impact of projects and initiatives for sustainable and inclusive development It launched, together with the Acea Group, the “Luiss Green Mobility” project, the first university smart mobility service in Europe, in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo, which since 2016 has allowed the entire University community to move between the various locations in the streets of the capital with a fleet of 12 electric cars and 5 shuttles (of which 2 electric and 3 run on natural gas)” .

“For some years now, the University has been pursuing an efficiency and supply plan that comes 100% from renewable sources, in the installation of low-consumption lights in all its offices, but also in its infrastructures.
