SCREAM VI. In the halls

Young film student Jason, who is about to be stabbed to death from that Satanic Ghostface in front of a refrigerator with a man cut to pieces and frozen, he is obsessed with Dario Argento’s cinema. He wears a t-shirt he remembers 4 gray velvet flies and knows the sequences by heart Deep red. A moment before, Jason was looking for his roommate Greg, confessing to him that he had disemboweled the blonde film teacher who had given him a bad grade in the writing test: in horror films there is always a blonde to be murdered for trivial reasons. Jason didn’t even notice that he was unleashing a grisly horror video game and plunging the survivors of the Woodsboro carnage back into the nightmareone year after the events of Scream V: first and foremost, sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter (Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera) and brothers Chad and Mindy Meeks (Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown).
Part hence the new adventure of the black man with the tunic and the smile from the Underworld, which reappears in multiple versions, comes out of the big screen and inflicts first-class slaughterhouse stabs that not even Julius Caesar. TOIn the end, however, no one dies: everyone remains available for chapter number 7 of the saga created in 1996 by Wes Craven riding the cinema slasherwith Neve Campbell starring and many debts of gratitude to Halloween the night of the witches.
Scream VI it is a film of doors that open and close, with many returns: directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett confirmed, Jenna Ortega returns, teen diva graduated from the success of the Netflix TV series WednesdayYes, an idea from Tim Burton (the tongue hits where the tooth hurts). Back Melissa Barrera (Samantha known as Sam, warrior and key to that big mess). She sees herself again, since Scream IV, Hayden Panettiere as Kerby Reed, now an FBI doll agent. Courtney Cox returns to reprise her role as Gale Weathers, valkyrie of contemptuous information, capable of standing up to detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney) and the hooded killerone by smashing all the furnishings in the house on his head.
The thousand horror quotes are back in a whirling mirror game between the loved / hated cinema, generational anxiety, epochal chaos with a false backgroundthe damned combination of reality & illusion, with the frantic search for an identity.
Generation Z stuff. Sam is a vampire who confesses to the psychoanalyst the pleasure of killing, but is like a mother to Tara, who however does not want protection and only asks to crouch under a plaid with the handsome Chad. Ghostface is a product of current hate. A haters convinced, without hesitation, projection of rancor, revenge, rivalry. Someone who only understands the language of the knife: communications with the victims take place on the smartphone and everything has an internet reflection. And if the maniac has everyone’s number, he means that he doesn’t stay that far away. He announces himself, welcomes, provokes, creates dismay and strikes in a world where the trick is there and it shows.
The kids in the film are about to take flight, but are faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. In a cinema in New York (actually it is Montreal) the museum of Scream: it is the house of horrors with weapons and disguises that we have known in previous installments. The mystery comes from the past: with twists and revelations well connected to the evolution of the story, otherwise a bit evasive and repetitive. The prey of the madman on the run seek escape by putting themselves in extreme situations. The team is thinning, but so is Ghostface’s room for maneuver. The sense of the film lies in the ambush on the subway and in the cinephile competition between Tara and Kirby, a bit pop metacinema, a bit convertible toy for fans and supporters. Ah, take note of the names of the actors, they will be the ruling class of Hollywood, including streaming, for years to come.
