From tomorrow to Sunday in New York “Change the World Model United Nations” is scheduled, the prestigious international traveling forum in the world for school and university students. This year, 3,500 students will go to the United Nations headquarters in New York to present their ideas, meet current leaders and take part in training courses. One of the main themes of the 2023 edition will be AI, or artificial intelligence.

Among the special guests of these three days are the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Defense Guido Crosetto, Dario Nardella (Mayor of Florence and President of Eurocities), Vitalij Volodymyrovyč Klyčko (Mayor of Kiev), Przemyslaw Czarnek (Polish Minister), the 1982 world champion Marco Tardelli, Zbigniew Boniek, Myrta Merlino, Federico Rampini, Maria Latella, Lucio Caracciolo, Salvatore Carruba and the epee champion Mariaclotilde Adosini, famous for her recent example of fair-play. The young fencer from Bergamo stood out during the under 20 World Cup epee stage on the Beauvais platform, signaling an error by the referee which had allowed her to prevail over the home athlete Juliette Baudinot 15-14. Her renunciation of victory led to a repeat of the assault, later lost but which she went around the world as a model of loyalty.

The event involves students from all over the world and sees Marco Tardelli as Goodwill Ambassador as promoter of the values of sport and who will present the young Lombard athlete as a testimonial of these principles. The three days into which the event is divided are an intensive work laboratory which aims to educate students, university and 1st and 2nd grade high schools, to coexistence with other cultures, exercising and perfecting their ability to dialogue according to the principles of the “UN model”. Divided into working groups, the young participants will address the hot topics of the international political scene, and not only those relating to their country of origin, together with leading figures from the world of culture, sport, industry, entertainment and of journalism who will share their experiences with the kids. The aim is to allow young people to apply themselves in defense of the values of democracy through the study and simulation of the work of major international organizations, understanding the meaning of respect, tolerance and coexistence between world citizens of different cultures, faiths or belonging ethnicity, also training them in transversal skills for the global world of work.

Names of the caliber of Bill Clinton, Francesco De Gregori, Liliana Segre, Michel Platini, Andrij Shevchenko, Bebe Vio, are just some of the excellent guests who have studded the previous editions. The event is organized by the Diplomatic Association, an NGO engaged in the international training of young people from all over the world, through the organization of highly specialized training courses. Claudio Corbino, founder of the Diplomatic Association, explains the value to be transmitted to the new generations as follows: «Being a leader means being humble when we listen to others but determined in affirming what we believe in. We need to change perspective. See the world from a new angle. Prove possible what you thought was impossible. So you can become a Game Changer».

Marco Tardelli, Goodwill Ambassador of CTWMUN, confirms his support for this important initiative which has involved him for several years: «For me this represents a precious opportunity to involve boys and girls in passionate, exciting and topical debates, all centered on the values of sports; those same values that inspired me, that I continue to want to pass on to future generations and that should also inspire the actions of politics and institutions. Being a Goodwill Ambassador is a role that I am more passionate about every year because it puts me in the privileged position of being able to promote respect for others. I have always been convinced that sport, if well conveyed, can be an incomparable disseminator of values such as union, solidarity and inclusion”.

Partner of this edition will be the Milan Foundation, to seal the strong connection between sport and the training of future generations. The event can also be followed in live streaming on the website www.cwmun.org.
