Hannah Goslar was a precious witness of the Holocaust for many years and told of her relationship with the author of the Diary, who died in Bergen-Belsen

Friday 12 June I was already awake at six: of course, it was my birthday! But at six I was not allowed to get up, and so I had to curb my curiosity until quarter past six … Then Lies came to get me and we went to school. During the break I offered some cookies to the professors and classmates and then we got back to work. Now I have to stop writing. My diary, I find you so beautiful !. on the page of Sunday 14 June 1942 which for the first time appears the name of Hannah Goslar, (also remembered as Hanneli or Lies), one of the best friends of Anne Frank (Frankfurt am Main, 1929- Bergen-Belsen, 1945)
, symbol of the misfortune of all my friends and all Jews – as defined in the diary page of January 6, 1944. As announced by the Anne Frank Foundation of Amsterdam, the woman who died on Friday 28 October at the age of 93, in Jerusalem.

Born in Berlin on November 12, 1928 to German Jewish parents, Goslar fled with her family from Germany in 1933, shortly after Adolf Hitler came to power, to settle in Amsterdam. In the Dutch city Goslar and Frank, who lived on the same street, attended the same school, right from the nursery school, soon becoming friends, as we read in the Diary published by Otto Frank, Anna’s father, when he returned as the only survivor from the concentration camps. Day by day, from Monday 15 June 1942 to 1 August 1944, a thirteen-year-old Dutch girl records her discovery of the world in a large notebook: anxieties, illusions, dreams and hopes revealed to an imaginary friend named Kitty. I have no intention of letting others read this cardboard bound notebook, we read on the first pages. Franck could not have imagined that those pages would have escaped the pillage of the German Wehrmacht’s secret military police, and become one of the most vivid documents of the horror of the Holocaust.

The two girls lost contact in July 1942 when the Frank family hid in the attic of their father Otto’s company to escape the SS. Several times Lies appears to Anna in a dream, as she herself tells: Dear Kitty, Last night, as I was about to fall asleep, I suddenly had a vision: Lies. I saw her in front of me dressed in rags and with a haggard and thin face. She looked at me with two big sad eyes, full of reproach, in which I could read: “Oh Anna, why have you forsaken me? help me, get me out of this hell! ”. And I can’t help her, I can only watch how other men suffer and die, I can only pray to God to bring her back to us … Oh Lies, if you see the end of the war and come back to us, I hope I can welcome you and repair mine. wrongs (November 20, 1943).

Goslar and his family were arrested by the Gestapo in 1943 and first deported to Westerbork, then in 1944 in Bergen-Belsen. In the Nazi concentration camp, Hanneli met her best friend again in February 1945, shortly before Frank’s death. Hannah and her sister Gabi were the only members of their family to survive the Holocaust. In 1947 Goslar emigrated to Jerusalem, where she became a nurse, before marrying doctor Walter Pinchass Pick. The couple had three children, 11 grandchildren and more than 31 great-grandchildren: This is my response to Hitler, said Goslar, whose encounter with Anna inspired the film. Anne Frank – My best friend by Ben Sombogaart, from last February 1st on Netflix.

We lived close by and our first meeting took place in 1934. We met in a grocery store … Anna was with her. The next day, when I saw her in kindergarten,
I recognized her and ran to embrace her
. Since then, we became friends … When I saw her again in the concentration camp, I had mixed feelings …
I was happy to see her again but sad at the same time.
I was hoping she was saved by escaping to Switzerland.
