Inter, the Inzaghi paradox: turnover with Juve to make no mistake in Salerno

Having to make a turnover in a semifinal against Juventus, in order to be able to field the best eleven possible against Salernitana in the championship. This is the paradoxical condition in which Inter has placed itself. Having lost ten games in Serie A so far, the nerazzurri – fourth in the standings one point behind third-placed Milan and five behind second-placed Lazio – are in fact seriously afraid of missing out on qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League. A disastrous prospect both from a sporting and economic point of view: participation in the group stage alone brings in an abundant 40 million. For this reason, on the eve of tomorrow’s match at the Stadium, Simone Inzaghi made training experiments that differ significantly from the basic line-up.

No withdrawals for players

As for the form of the players, among the potential starters, only Calhanoglu has undergone therapy and recovery. Skriniar trained on the pitch, but following a personalized program. Otherwise everyone is doing well, including Dimarco, who was unavailable last Saturday in the match which was then lost against Fiorentina. Precisely to the defeat at San Siro – the third in a row in the championship, and the fourth in the last five races – Inzaghi dedicated all his attention in the video session at the Pinetina. The coach then decided not to keep the players in training camp: everyone will return to their families, rest tomorrow morning and then leave for Turin during the day.

Three races in eight days to compete for the season

Like every day, the club managers had lunch together with the team and the coach: the CEO Beppe Marotta, the sporting director Ausilio, his deputy Baccin and the vice president Zanetti. Awareness of the difficulty of the moment – with Inter playing a lot of their journey in the Italian Cup, league and Champions in eight days – pushes the Nerazzurri top management to avoid any tension. The showdown with coach and team is therefore postponed. After tomorrow’s match at the Stadium and Saturday’s match in Salerno, Inter will play the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals in Lisbon on Tuesday 11 April.
