Three thousand square meters for the faces of the boys of Scampia portrayed by Oliviero Toscania music festival, an exhibition with shots taken by young people under 18 in the neighborhood for the social project “Tutt ‘equal song ‘e criature”a charity event for children’s rights and their protection especially in the suburbs, organized by Smean energy, a consortium of companies in the construction sector and in the field of energy efficiency. A project, illustrated in a press conference in Montecitorio, which involved associations, artists and institutions in a solidarity contest.

“We used the spaces available given by our scaffolding to send a message and do something good and above all beautiful – explained the lawyer Wanda Sciarrino of Smean Energy – Because there is beauty in Scampia and those guys are the present and above all the future not only of Scampia, but of the country”.

Alessandra Clemente, who is a city councilor in Naples as well as President of the Silvia Ruotolo onlus Foundation, knows it well: “Scampia represents a resilient and strong community. If it is possible here, it is possible everywhere, breaking away from prejudices and clichés”. Nicola Nardella echoes her, who, as President of the Eighth Municipality of Naples, is the institutional representative of that neighborhood “Today we can speak of a Scampia model. Meeting in a park, at a concert, at an artistic representation causes community to be produced. This is how the social recomposition and the experience of co-planning the territory are born”.

The charity Festival will in fact see many moments of aggregation and long-term planning. It will be inaugurated on June 20 with the uncovering of the sheets and with a press conference at the medical faculty in the former Vela H, it will continue with the photographic exhibition of the shots taken by the under 18 young people of the neighborhood and awarded by Oliviero Toscani and will end on 22-23 June with concerts by Franco Ricciardi and Clementino organized at the municipal park of Scampia.

“Scampia was chosen to give logic to the redemption of the South, a tormented area, a fertile territory for hunger, desire, desire, the joy of dreaming of a different future. We were lucky – says Ranieri Ricciardi, the President of the Smean energy consortium – and we invest in the welfare state, in the restoration of a neighborhood, bringing know-how, our knowledge. We intend to make people work for their neighborhood in a permanent building laboratory, to bring prosperity where it does not exist and where bringing wealth means destroying crime”.

The convergence with the associations operating in the area was born precisely on the issues of work. “We wanted to create an opportunity for redemption for the neighborhood – explained Patrizia Palumbo, President of the Dream Team Women on the Network for Urban Revitalization association -. We share the belief that the promotion of a territory passes through redevelopment, first of all social, and there is nothing more redevelopment than work, to bring people out of degraded contexts”.

Because the charity Festival is not only aimed at protecting the rights and redeeming the neighborhood’s image, but it will be an opportunity to raise funds and give life to a wider project. “We deal with construction – Sciarrino explained again – It is the concreteness of what we do, together with the many associations that work in the neighbourhood, that prompted us to want to launch a true and visible message of redemption. Scampia offers fertile ground for the creation of an energetically autonomous neighbourhood. Offering totally clean electricity at a negligible cost to those who struggle to make ends meet means improving the quality of life of those people. So that the young people portrayed in the photos look to the future with less fear and more hope”.
