In Rome a building is on fire: there are wounded and at least one dead

At least one dead and several injured is the provisional balance of thefire that hit a building in the Colli Aniene area in Rome, in via D’onofrio. The flames have involved about 7 floors and the huge column of black smoke that has risen is visible from several kilometers away. The fire broke out just before 2 pm and the operations of the fire brigade are still ongoing, with six teams on site. According to agencies, the body of a dead man was found in the building, while at least 17 were injured, including 3 seriously burned. “We have opened the crisis unit”, said the president of the IV Municipality of Rome, Maximilian Umberto.

Renovations were underway in the building. “From the street I thought I heard at least two explosions,” a girl who was near the building at the time of the fire told Agi. According to Ansa, which heard the rescuers on the spot, one of the hypotheses is that the fire started from a car parked under the building. The flames of the car would have triggered the explosion of some acetylene cylinders present in the construction site which in turn would have also involved the scaffolding around the building.
