In gender war Scotland, even “Peter Pan” becomes “problematic”

In JM Barrie’s classic “Peter Pan,” Neverland never grows up. Today the imaginary Barrie Island has become reality in UK universities. “Peter Pan” is among the latest books to be slapped and censored with a warning from officials at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where The children’s classic is accused of containing ‘gender stereotypes’. The threshold for what can be considered oppressive is lowering day by day. In 2016, Oxford introduced a notice in lessons about sexual offences. Just a year later, literature students at Cambridge received warnings about Shakespeare’s plays. Last year, students at the University of Northampton were warned about George Orwell’s ‘1984’. And now we have reached a new low, where even children’s literature is considered harmful to students.
