Last year the resident population in Italy decreased by 179,000 units, reaching 58.8 million people. In 2019 we were 59.8 million, one million more. For the first time, births fall below 400,000
The Istat report on the demographic dynamics of 2022 confirms the negative trend that began in 2008, the year in which the maximum relative value of births in the last 20 years was recorded. Last year the resident population in Italy decreased by 179 thousand units, reaching 58.8 million people (-0.3 percent compared to 2021): from 2019, when the population was 59.8 million, Italy has lost a million inhabitants.
